Transparency is a prerequisite for trust

If you can’t explain why a curve looks the way it does, you can’t really trust it. In many institutions, bootstrapping still happens inside black boxes. That works — right up until it doesn’t.

In many institutions, curve bootstrapping happens behind the scenes. A library produces curves, the curves flow downstream, and few people can clearly explain how a specific shape emerged at a particular moment in time.

This opacity becomes a problem when behaviour looks odd, when audit questions arise, or when regulators ask how a valuation was formed. Without transparency, confidence erodes — even if the numbers themselves appear reasonable.

Algorithmica takes a different view. Curve calibration should be observable, explainable and reproducible. In practice, this means that every stage of the calibration process is available for inspection: instrument selection, knot placement, optimisation behaviour and residuals.

By implementing explicit curve logic (Quantlab) and persisting the full calibration lineage (Algorithmica History Server), institutions gain the ability to reconstruct not just what a curve looked like, but why it looked that way. This clarity simplifies governance, model validation and regulatory dialogue.
